Obituary of Joel Hollingsworth

Joel H. Hollingsworth, 60, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at Ellis Hospital on Tuesday July 29, 2014. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 22, 1954 he was the son of Nancy Harris and the late Dr. Jack Hollingsworth. Joel attended Shenendehowa High School and went on to receive a degree from S.C.C.C. in Human Services. Joel married the love of his life Kathleen (Hodge) Hollingsworth on October 11, 1980. He had many passions and hobbies such as his love for the New York Yankees, rock and roll music especially the Rolling Stones, travelling to places like Hawaii and his tropical fish. He retired from Hale Creek Correctional in Johnstown as an A.S.A.T Counselor in April of this year. Prior he worked several years at Conifer Park located in Glenville. Joel was an extremely passionate motivational speaker and would travel the country, in efforts to help as many people as he could. Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include his sister Priscilla (Daryl) Herzog of Atascadero , CA, his family Elaine Palmer of Glenville, Karen (Gary) Latta of Vestal, NY; his best friend Tony Gonzalez of Tampa, FL, and his canine companion Brutus . Many other family members and friends also survive. Joel was predeceased by his brother Seth Hollingsworth. Funeral services for Joel will be held on Saturday August 2, 2014 at 10:00am at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Hamburg St, Schenectady. Relatives and friends may call at the Glenville Funeral Home on Friday August 1, 2014 from 3:30 - 6:00pm. The family would like to thank Dr. Sally Mathew , everyone on A-6 wing at Ellis Hospital , the hospice staff for the care they gave Joel and a special thanks to his friends of Bill W.
