Daniel Moffett

Obituary of Daniel Moffett

Daniel M. Moffett, 63, of Glenville fought the most courageous fight in the war against small cell cancer and passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on March 4, 2015. Dan was born in Schenectady on March 8, 1951 and was the son of the late Edward (Don) and Francis (Behan) Moffett. He is survived by his loving family: Wife Linda (Ricketts) Moffett, son Denis Moffett (Jennifer Gephart); daughters Erin (Jack) Purdy, Tara Moffett, Jill Moffett and Maureen Moffett; his brother Gerald Moffett; his sisters, Kathleen (David) Milne, Margaret Jean Moffett, Patricia (Dennis) Chakas and Jeanne (Ray) Andersons. Dan leaves his cherished grandchildren Matthew James and Sara Isabella Purdy, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, godchildren and cousins by the dozens. Dan was retired from the Glenville Police Department as Sergeant with a career that spanned several decades of service beyond self. He was a dedicated police officer and community leader with an unselfish spirit that benefitted many. Dan was the ambassador for many campaigns and fund drives of both local and national charities. His memberships included life member of the East Glenville Fire Department, Retired Police Officer Association of NYS, Glenville Elks Charter Member, NYS Rifle and Pistol Association, SKA-NON-DO LOJ, Bleeker Fish and Game Club, Glenville Fish and Game, DOCCS Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Band, Charlton Snow Mobile Club, St. Andrew's Society of Schenectady, YMCA of Greater Glenville and the Overlook Beach Club at the Great Sacandaga Lake. Dan was a proud instructor of the baby sitter course open to the general public. He attended both Immaculate Conception and St. John the Evangelist Church throughout his life. Dan personally mailed cards to troops overseas every month during the War in Afghanistan. He had a "caring and thoughtful nature" that showed through when he spoke to others. He will be truly missed by the community. Dan has gifted his remains to Anatomical Research so his doctors might discover key information in the fight against small cell cancer. The family could like to extend a special thank you to Dr. David Shaffer, Dr. Rufus Colea, Dr. Geoffrey Shapiro, Dr. Badar Mian, Dr. James Gaylord and Dr. David Strauss as well as the nurses and staff at NYOH Albany and Rexford for their extraordinary care, compassion and support to him and his family. The family also would like to extend thanks to East Glenville FD, especially Chief Pohl, Glenville PD and the neighbors of Van Vorst Road for all of their support. The family will greet callers on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 3 pm to 8 pm at the GLENVILLE FUNERAL Home, 9 Glenridge Rd Glenville.
