Obituary of Joan M. Valente

Joan M. Valente, 82, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2015 at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness, with her family by her side. Born in Schenectady she was the daughter of the late Michael and Irene Wilson. Joan was a lifelong area resident and was a 1951 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Joan married Albert, her beloved husband of 58 years, on October 21, 1956 at St. Anthony's Church in Schenectady. She was a bookkeeper for several small businesses throughout her life in addition to working at General Electric, The Wallace Company, and Young Shoe World/Junior Bootery over the years. She was long time member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. Joan was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing Scrabble, knitting and doing her daily jumble and crossword puzzle. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Joan is survived by her three loving daughters, Sharon A. Valente, Claudia M. Cannavo (Joseph) and Catherine M. Rotondi (Frank). She is also the cherished grandmother of Mark F. Rotondi. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Valente; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Albert, who passed away on May 6, 2015; her brother Walter L. Wilson (Alma); her sister Betty E. Cadieux (Ray) and her brother –in- law S. Robert Valente. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday,December 1, 2015 at 9:00am from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville, followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held on Monday November 30 from 6pm-9pm at the Glenville Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy Schenectady Rd. Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to a charity of one’s choice.
