Dear Linda, Stacie, Jeffrey and family,
My heart and deepest sympathies go out to you at this most difficult of times. I was shocked and enormously saddened to learn today that Ed had passed. Although I have been quite far away for many years now, I know the world will never be quite the same place without Ed. He was my first and best boss of my long career and, more importantly, a terrific human being I was glad to count among my friends.
Ed taught me volumes about due process; the proper conduct of hearings and administrative law. He taught me even more about how to savor red wine, Scotch whiskey, sports cars and life in general.
There was a time when, as a young attorney, I became very ill with pneumonia when I had to prepare a major case for arbitration. Ed came to my apartment with boxes and boxes of relevant documents and worked side by side with me for days so we could meet the deadline. As a result of being so well prepared, we won that case handily, a type of matter that had never before been tried in NYS government. The credit goes to Ed for, among other things, teaching me by example the value of persistence through tough times. In the process, we formed a close bond that I believe cannot be broken by time, distance or even death. Ed will always have a special place in my memories.
I'll soon be raising a glass to Ed ... as soon as I obtain a bottle of Louis Martini Cabernet. Meanwhile, feel free to call upon me if I may be supportive in any way.
With sincere sympathy,
Bob/Igor
