Obituary of William David DeWitt

William David DeWitt, passed on August 26, at the age of 83, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Stella (Wawruch) DeWitt and father of William David DeWitt Jr, (Robert Pulster), and Karen DeWitt (Jeff Carlson). Born in Buffalo, New York, Bill grew up in Franklinville, New York, and graduated high school from the Ten Broeck Academy. He went on to achieve degrees from Saint Bonaventure University, where he was a member of the marching band, and the University of Rochester, where he was in the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He worked in Niagara Falls as a chemical engineer, where he met his wife Stella, the love of his life. They married in 1959. His career took him many places, including Detroit, Michigan, Portland, Maine, Bilbao, Spain, Genoa, Italy and Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he worked on an early space program. Bill and his family moved to Glenville New York in 1970, where he worked for GE in Schenectady until 1993. He enjoyed his lengthy retirement, doing volunteer work, and regularly golfed, hiked, skied and traveled. Bill also leaves behind nieces and nephews Christine Ciesla (John), Carol Harrison (Don), and Chester Kasprzyk (Ginny), Patricia Moriarity and Sandra Wozniak, as well as several grand nieces and nephews, and family friend Mary Roche. He will be deeply missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, August 30th at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd, Glenville at 10 A.M., officiated by Rev. Jerry Gingras. Interment will follow at Kateri Meadows at The Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Contributions are appreciated to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 295 Valley View Blvd. Rensselaer, NY 12144.
