Obituary of Richard F. Burke

Richard F. Burke "Jim", 83, entered God's Kingdom on March 3, 2017. He passed peacefully at Joan Nicole Prince Home early morning with his family by his side. Born in Gloversville, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick and Helen (Harris) Burke. He was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD where he was a standout athlete. Richard received his Master's in Education from SUNY at Albany in 1963. He was married to the former Jo-Ann Tomek on June 28, 1958. Mr. Burke taught History at Lake Lucerne High School prior to teaching History and Economics at BH-BL for 35 years. He was a referee in the Capital District and coached both football and basketball. An avid golfer, with a career hole-in-one, he was a member of Local Track Official's Association, Past President of Ridgewood Swim Club and B.P.O.E. He retired in 1989. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Jo-Ann in 2015; his brother, Thomas Burke and sister, Mary Hartnagle. Survivors include his son, Richard A. (Donna) Burke; daughters, Kelly (Doug) Bergen, Kathy Burke and Tina (Mark) Marcinkiewicz; nine grandchildren, Scott (Merissa) Bergen, Lindsey and Molly Bergen; Ryan Pierce, Shaun Tuggle; Richie and Lauren (Matt Fish) Burke; Jack and Nick Marcinkiewicz. Jim also is survived by two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday (March 7) at 9 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Rd., Glenville. There will be no calling hours. Interment, Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown under the direction of Glenville Funeral Home.
