Obituary of Deborah D. May

Deborah D. May, 63, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Gloversville, NY she was the daughter of the late Warren G. May Sr. and Janet May.  Debbie grew up in Johnstown, NY and was a 1972 graduate of Johnstown High School. Deborah furthered her education at the University of New Hampshire and received her master’s degree from the University of Hawaii in education.  Deborah worked as a guidance counselor at the Scotia Glenville High School and retired from there after many dedicated years.  She loved making an impact on the student’s lives.  One of Deborah’s many passions was the theater. She loved both acting and directing.  She was a part of the Scotia Glenville Drama Club, Schenectady Civic Playhouse, Colonial Little Theater in Johnstown, SLOC Musical Theater, Albany Civic, RPI Players, Not So Common Players and several others. Deborah also enjoyed traveling, especially to Cape Cod. She was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed going to restaurants, singing, and donating her time to help the lives of others and animals. Deborah truly loved life and being around people. She was always found with a smile on her face. Most of all she loved her family especially her sons and her grandchildren. Deborah is survived by her cherished sons Daniel J. (Diana) Dermott III and Nathaniel W. (A’lisha Harrison) Dermott, grandchildren Ashleigh Copeland, Zackry Kadlic, Brittany Copeland and Nathaniel Dermott, her brother Warren (Julie) May Jr. and sister Christine (Pieter) Poll. Also surviving are her niece and nephews Brie May, Warren May III and Alastair Poll. Many other cousins and friends also survive.

Calling hours for Deborah will be held on Thursday June 22, 2017 from 3-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville New York. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday June 24 beginning at 3pm at the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 S Church St, Schenectady, NY 12305.  Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at the Maple Ave Cemetery in Fultonville. Memorial contributions in Deborah’s memory may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302 or to the Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 S Church St, Schenectady, NY 12305.
