Obituary of Patricia A. Kergel

Patricia A. Kergel, 75, was called home to the Lord on November 21, 2017. Pat had just finished watching a favorite of her's, the annual Schenectady Christmas parade. Born in Schenectady on July 28, 1942, she was the daughter of Walter and Stephania (Kruszewski) Hoffman. Pat was a graduate of Niskayuna High School (1959) and attended the College of St. Rose. She married Thomas A. Kergel on September 2, 1967. In 1974 Pat and Tom moved to Glenville, raising a family which included three sons and two daughters. Pat enrolled all five children to attend Schenectady Christian School (now known as Mekeel Christian Academy). Pat was a longtime volunteer at the school, where she tirelessly dedicated her time and energy over many years. As a homemaker, she enjoyed being there for her family and making sure everyone was well fed. She often cooked more than enough food so that everyone had leftovers to take home. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Walter Hoffman Jr. She leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Tom Kergel, her children: Matthew (Jeanne) Kergel, Jeremy (Amanda) Kergel, Zachary (Monica) Kergel, Judith Helen Kergel and Elizabeth (Kyle) Lindley. Her grandchildren: Jenna Teal, Samuel and Kiri Kergel; Thomas, Daniel and Kaitlyn Kergel, Lia and Isabella Kergel; nieces Karen and Jillian and nephew Stephen. Funeral services for Pat will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (Nott Terrace), Schenectady, NY. Calling hours for relatives and friends will be Friday from 5-8PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. in Scotia-Glenville, NY.
