Obituary of Sally J. Reken

Sally J. Reken, 54, of Glenville, NY passed away suddenly on January 9, 2018. Born in Hertfordshire, England to Thomas and Annette (Wynn) Marples. 

She attended school in England where she became an Au Pair. Her career as an Au Pair brought her over to the United States, where she met her husband of 27 years, David Reken. 

The couple met in New York City, and then lived throughout the north: Connecticut, Ohio and eventually Upstate New York where they raised their son, Gavin.

Sally taught autistic children at Stevens Elementary in the Burnt Hills school district for over 10 years. She was passionate about helping children, it brought her joy to see them smile. 

Her favorite place was the beach, specifically Hampton Beach, NH and Myrtle Beach, SC; she loved the smell of the salty ocean and the feel of sea breeze on her face. Sally always enjoyed watching soccer and was a scrapbooking enthusiast. 

Predeceased by her father, Thomas Marples, and brother Gavin Marples.

Survivors include her loving husband, David Reken; beloved son, Gavin; mother, Annette and her siblings, all from England: John (Hilary) Marples, Matthew (Susan) Marples and Louise (Colin) Williamson .

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 13th, from 3 to 6 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road. Sally will be laid to rest in her hometown in England at a later date.
